Judy has developed several tennis initiatives including Miss-Hits, a starter programme for girls age 5 to 8, Tennis on the Road, which takes tennis into remote and deprived parts of Scotland, and, most recently, She Rallies, a programme with the LTA, to encourage more women and girls into tennis across the UK.

Lindsay Davenport

WTA Finals Legend Ambassador

Lindsay Davenport

BIO

Lindsay Davenport was born in Palos Verdes, California in the United States of America. She turned professional in February 1993 and embarked on a successful career. She was one of only six players to be ranked No.1 in both singles (October 12, 1998) and doubles (October 20, 1997) simultaneously, and spent a total of 98 weeks at No.1 for singles.

Davenport is one of seven women in the Open Era to have won three of the four majors in singles, missing out only on the French Open, where her best result was reaching the semi-final in 1998. She then went on to win the US Open in the same year, Wimbledon in 1999 and the Australian Open in 2000. Davenport also has one of the best records at the WTA Finals, qualifying for the tournament four times, winning three consecutive doubles titles from 1996-1998, and winning the singles title in 1999 (d. Martina Hingis).

In her doubles career, Davenport won three Grand Slam titles; Roland Garros in 1996 (w/MJ Fernandez), the US Open in 1997 (w/Jana Novotna) and Wimbledon in 1999 (w/Corina Morariu).

She was a member of the US Fed Cup team and has played the most number of years (11) in the team’s history, from 1993-2000, 2002 and 2008, taking the title three times with the team in 1996, 1999, and 2000.

Davenport took a break from late 2006 to early 2007 to have a baby, but returned to compete three months after the birth of her first child to win singles titles in Bali and Québec City, earning her the 2007 WTA Comeback Player of the Year award. Davenport is now a mother of four and was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2014.

Davenport began coaching fellow American Madison Keys in 2015, leading her to a breakout season where Keys reached her first Grand Slam singles semi-final at the Australian Open, with notable wins over Petra Kvitova and Venus Williams. Keys made her Top 20 debut at No.18 by the end of 2015. After a one-year split, Davenport returned as Key’s coach in 2017, guiding the 22-year-old to her first WTA hard court title at the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford. Keys beat newly-crowned Wimbledon champion, Garbiñe Muguruza, en route to the final where she won in straight sets against compatriot CoCo Vandeweghe.

In 2017, Davenport was announced as the latest WTA Finals Legend Ambassador and will join fellow WTA Legends such as Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert and Kim Clijsters at the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global in October.
